Analysis of still woozy Lava music video
The video starts with a close up
shot of still woozy himself in front of a busy and colourful background with a
glowing effect on text either side of his head that reads “still woozy” and a
glass bottle is smashed on his head in slow motion. It the cuts to a close-up
shot of him in the rain dripping with water. This shot then transitions into
the same shot of his face however, this time he is dry and has two lava lamps
either side of his face with the same glowing text that reads “Lava”. The text
is glowing and white to represent the glowing haze of a lava lamp. The white
allows it to read clearly with dark background. The shot cuts to a close up of
his feet dancing in the rain, then pans upwards, and cuts to a new shot in
different scenery of him lip-syncing the words to the camera. It again cuts to
a shot of more feet skipping and dancing in the rain this could. The shots of
him alone in contrast to being with a group of people could represent his sense
of loneliness because he has had an argument with his loved one. The shot cuts
to a pan of himself in a bubble bath that is low key lit with a pinkish haze,
the lighting is purely sourced from candles. The pink haze and low-key lighting
connotes a romantic feel to the shot again promotes the background of the song
being written about his girlfriend. The shot cuts again to a medium shot of him
and all his friends dancing around together however, they all push him away
reinforcing the narrative of him being distant from people he loves and cares for.
A fast shot of him in the romantic
setting alone again and the quickly cuts back to a medium 180 degree pan of
himself dancing on his own and then shows all of his friends dancing together
without him. This again, reinforces of the idea of him feeling alone. A change
for scenery presented in the following shot back to the opening of the video,
he’s now at a close-up shot with a brown Labrador singing the words “why would
you have to go” suggesting he’s now using the dog as a replacement for the
person who has gone. Despite this being a sad story and section of the song the
colourful background connotes the upbeat tempo of the music. However the shot
cuts to a low angle shot of him walking down the hill with his dog however this
is a drastic change as it is a low-key lit shot with him on a rainy grey day
that connotes more of the depressing narrative of the song. An extremely
low-key lot shot of still woozy sitting down at an electric piano with two lava
lamps either side of him with a small version of himself dancing in the lava
lamps the lighting again presents a romantic pink haze. All shots that present
this romantic haze only have him in alone this could be a metaphor to suggest
that people need to find love within themselves before they love others. Followed by a short montage of different
varying shots of his girlfriend mixed in with close up shots of him singing to
the audience, this suggests a build-up of what is later to come together. As he
walks through a door the shot cuts to still woozy and all his friends dancing
and having fun and ends on a shot where there all crammed into the view with a
slowly zooming out effect.
